EXO’s Baekhyun Reflects on His Childhood Dream of Becoming a Singer
On the recent episode of The Seasons – Park Bo-gum’s Cantabile, aired on June 23 on KBS 2TV, EXO’s Baekhyun opened up about the early days of his dream to become a singer. The episode, themed “No Break, Keep Going,” provided a heartfelt moment as Baekhyun reminisced about the moment he realized music was his calling.
Park Bo-gum, who hosts the show, was visibly impressed by Baekhyun’s emotional performance of “Rendezvous,” praising his vocal abilities. “How do you sing so well?” he asked in awe. Baekhyun credited his parents—especially his father—for fostering his musical talents. “My father often organized parties for our apartment community and would often win first prize with his singing, bringing home appliances as rewards,” he shared with a smile.
Park Bo-gum responded by asking if musical talent ran in the family. Baekhyun affirmed, saying that his childhood was filled with opportunities to listen to music, thanks to his parents’ love for it. He added that he’d love to be friends with Bo-gum, revealing a more personal side. “I’m actually pretty shy and don’t have many friends. It’s hard for me to get close to others because I worry I might be too much,” he admitted.
The chemistry between the two stars lit up the stage, with Park Bo-gum sitting closely and engaging in genuine conversation. Baekhyun also revealed that he had dreamed of becoming a singer since the second grade. “I never really thought about any other job,” he said. “In sixth grade, I went to karaoke for the first time and noticed my friends’ songs sounded like kids’ tunes. That’s when I started thinking I might be born with something special.”
To the delight of the audience, Baekhyun and Park Bo-gum stepped into a nostalgic moment, recreating a karaoke session from Baekhyun’s childhood, sharing laughter—and of course—songs. It was a touching glimpse into the origins of a K-pop star who has never lost sight of his childhood dream.
