Disney+ Score Big With ‘Nine Puzzles’

Disney+ has launched a new global sensation with its latest original Korean series, ‘Nine Puzzles’ (directed by Yoon Jong-bin, produced by Moonlight Film and Kakao Entertainment). Premiering its first six episodes on May 21, ‘Nine Puzzles’ stormed into the global Top 10 Disney+ TV shows, securing the top spot in Korea and Japan, and dominating the Top 10 in a total of six countries, according to FlixPatrol as of May 26. The series has also left critics buzzing, earning peak episode ratings of up to 9.4 on IMDb.

A Riveting Thriller with International Acclaim

‘Nine Puzzles’ has received rave reviews from major review platforms and critics abroad. Decider described it as “a gripping thriller that will keep you guessing,” while The Review Geek heralded its “brilliantly quirky tone” that reimagines the murder-mystery genre. In Korea, it shot straight to number one in daily trending searches on the integrated OTT site, KinoLights.

Plot: A Puzzle That Spans a Decade

Set ten years after a traumatic unsolved series of murders, prodigy profiler Yoon E-na (played by Kim Da-mi), the only witness to the original case, is thrust back into danger when a new puzzle piece—matching those left by the killer a decade ago—arrives at her door. Convicted detective Han-saem (played by Son Suk-ku) still suspects E-na and joins her chase after the truth behind a newly sparked chain of murders. The show masterfully delivers edge-of-your-seat twists, psychological tension, and a partnership that crackles with both suspicion and teamwork.

Distinct Visuals and Unforgettable Cast

‘Nine Puzzles’ stands out for its stylish and surreal mise-en-scène, amplifying the show’s chilling atmosphere and reinforcing its reputation as an irresistible mystery thriller. The chemistry between Kim Da-mi (Yoon E-na) and Son Suk-ku (Han-saem) fuels much of the dramatic tension and intrigue, as their dynamic oscillates between conflict and reluctant cooperation. Supporting actors Kim Sung-kyun (Yang Jeong-ho), Hyun Bong-sik (Choi San), and others further heighten the series’ immersive quality with charismatic performances.

What’s Next?

The first six episodes of ‘Nine Puzzles’ are now available on Disney+, with three more dropping May 28 and the final two episodes premiering June 4. As Yoon E-na and Han-saem inch closer to the truth behind the serial killings, anticipation for the next twists runs high among global viewers.
