Disney+ Japan Launches Remake of Hit K-Drama ‘Suspicious Partner’
The 2017 Korean hit romantic comedy Suspicious Partner, which captivated viewers with its blend of sweet romance and thrilling suspense, is making a high-profile return — this time from Japan. Starting May 14, Disney+ will exclusively stream a Japanese remake of the popular K-Drama, promising fans both old and new an exciting reinterpretation.
The original Suspicious Partner starred Ji Chang-wook and Nam Ji-hyun, whose on-screen chemistry and powerful performances made the show a beloved classic in Korea. The Japanese remake retains the heart of the original while infusing it with local flavor and new perspectives.
In the Japanese version, the cold yet brilliant prosecutor Haruto Tateishi, portrayed by Yusei Yagi — a member of the Japanese boy band Fantastics — finds himself entangled in a quirky yet fateful encounter with Sakura Miyashita, played by Kyoko Saito, former member of the popular idol group Hinatazaka46. Sakura, a trainee lawyer, mistakenly accuses Haruto of being a pervert during a bus ride, setting the stage for a tangled yet compelling storyline of love, fate, and legal intrigue.
Directed by Yuka Yasukawa, known for her work on critically acclaimed dramas, and written by Yosuke Masaike, a Japanese Academy Award winner, the production is expected to deliver high-quality storytelling that respects the original while carving its own identity.
Marrying the themes of heart-throbbing romance and gripping suspense, the remake aims to captivate the Japanese audience and thrill international fans of the original series. As a testament to its cultural crossover appeal, this release also highlights Disney+’s ongoing commitment to offering diverse content to global audiences.
Don’t miss the premiere of the Japanese version of Suspicious Partner on Disney+, exclusively streaming from May 14.
