Choi Jun-hee Opens Up About Sweet Message From Her ‘MAMA’

Late actress Choi Jin-sils daughter Choi Junhee posts emotional chat with her grandaunt

Choi Jun-hee, daughter of the late Korean actress Choi Jin-sil, shared a touching moment with a loved one she affectionately refers to as ‘MAMA’ on Instagram, sparking curiosity and empathy among fans.

On May 24, Choi posted a screenshot of a KakaoTalk conversation in her Instagram Story. The message came from a contact saved as ‘MAMA’ who shared, “I was going to bring watermelon and then head to the hospital.” In response, Choi replied, “In a meeting. No no,” to which ‘MAMA’ adorably sent a photo of the watermelon with a sad paper note saying “ㅠㅠ.”

Choi captioned the screenshot, writing, “My grandma. Being so cute, what are you even doing,” suggesting a tender and caring relationship. Fans later speculated that ‘MAMA’ is actually Choi’s grandaunt, not her maternal grandmother.

This comes after previous headlines involving Choi and her maternal grandmother. In July 2023, Choi reported her grandmother for trespassing and accused her of verbal abuse, neglect, and misappropriating Choi’s assets. Her grandmother was taken in for questioning by Seoul Seocho Police and was interrogated for approximately five hours.

It is believed that Choi Jun-hee has since distanced herself from her grandmother and instead formed a close bond with her grandaunt. During her acceptance speech at the 2023 Korean Culture and Entertainment Awards, where she received the Rising Star Award, she made no mention of her grandmother. Instead, she gave heartfelt thanks to her grandaunt, saying, “To my grandaunt who raised me like a mother, I am what I am today because of your unconditional love and dedication. You have been my unwavering support and the reason for my survival.”

Choi’s public acknowledgment highlights the importance of chosen family and emotional support systems, resonating deeply with followers who themselves may navigate complex family dynamics.
