BTS’s V Tops Poll as Most Anticipated K-Drama Idol Return
Global K-pop icon V of BTS (Beyond The Scene) continues to generate massive excitement in the entertainment industry. According to a recent poll by Japanese Hallyu media outlet Danmee, V was selected as the No.1 K-pop idol that fans most eagerly want to see return to acting.
The poll targeted 21 K-pop idols who have not acted in over a year. Under the theme “I miss seeing their acting, and I want to watch them again,” V’s popularity skyrocketed him to the top of the list—testament to both his acting impact and enduring charm.
V made his acting debut back in 2016 through the KBS historical K-drama “Hwarang”, where he portrayed the youngest cadet, Han Sung. Despite having no formal acting education, his emotional nuance and expressive presence caught the attention of critics and audiences alike. His role marked the birth of a new-age ‘idol-actor.’
The cultural resonance of Hwarang continues—transforming into a theatrical production by Avex Pictures earlier this year in Japan. Additionally, the series remains accessible worldwide via platforms like Netflix, riding the ongoing wave of K-Drama global fascination.
During the filming of Hwarang, V was also juggling his commitments to “2016 BTS LIVE The Most Beautiful Moment in Life On Stage: Epilogue Asia Tour”. His schedule was so intense that it affected his ability to fully commit to the drama, yet his brief appearance left a powerful, lasting legacy.
The show’s cast and crew, including director Yoon Sung-sik, were deeply moved by V’s natural talent. “He’s someone with vibrant energy and such lovable charm. Everyone fell in love with him on set,” said the team.
Even a single drama role has kept global fans captivated for nearly a decade. Although V has turned down numerous acting offers due to BTS’s active schedule, he has shared his intention to return to acting someday. In a Rolling Stone interview, he mentioned, “After turning thirty, I’d like to act again.”
His favorite movie genres are testament to his serious passion for acting. V names Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary The Godfather as key inspirations. Expressing versatile comedic timing, many fans and directors believe his acting potential is limitless.
Major film figures have taken interest as well. Director Max Minghella expressed his admiration for V in an interview with MTV, and Cannes jury prize-winning filmmaker Xavier Dolan listed V among artists he hopes to collaborate with. Baek Jong-yeol, who directed The Beauty Inside, revealed that he has been monitoring V’s performance ever since seeing him act in a variety show segment reenacting scenes from the movie “Wind”.
As both fans and industry legends root for his next move, the world awaits the much-anticipated actor comeback of Kim Taehyung — better known as V.
