BIBI Blends Genres and Breaks Boundaries on ‘Radio Star’

South Korean singer and actress BIBI discusses music acting and fame on Radio Star episode

South Korean singer and actress BIBI captivated audiences once again with her heartfelt appearance on MBC’s beloved variety show Radio Star. The multi-talented star, who goes by her real name Kim Hyung-seo when acting, joined the latest episode for the special segment titled “Chaotic Stage” alongside veteran singer No Sa-yeon, TV personality Hyun-young, and YouTuber Charles Entertainment.

BIBI reflected on her viral success with the single “Bam Yang Gang,” crediting acclaimed artists like Lee Hyori, 10CM (Kwon Jung-yeol), Lee Ji-hye, comedian Jo Hye-ryeon, and Jang Kiha for amplifying the buzz by performing the song themselves. “Out of all of them, I was most surprised by Lee Hyori,” BIBI shared, adding, “She’s not just an icon—she’s an era.”

Discussing her parallel acting career, BIBI revealed her on-screen persona as Kim Hyung-seo, describing her experience filming SBS’s Priest 2 with actor Kim Nam-gil. “His physicality and action scenes were so impressive, I actually worried he might get hurt acting next to me,” she said with a smile.

The artist earned recognition for her acting, clinching a Rookie Award for the film Hwaran at the Baeksang Arts Awards and an Excellence Award for Priest 2 at the SBS Drama Awards. Her candid award speeches—thanking humanity for inventing art, and joking about not expecting to win—left a lasting impression on fans and hosts alike.

BIBI also opened up about the duality of her musical identity, admitting she sometimes felt “too free to be an idol, too unconventional to be a musician.” Recalling a poignant moment at an award show, she confessed, “I felt like no one truly welcomed me… until I saw the warm smiles of my seniors, and I started crying.”

In the studio, BIBI wowed everyone by performing two self-written title tracks from her upcoming album, winning emphatic praise from the MCs. Her artistry shone through as a singer-songwriter capable of expressing raw emotion and embracing creative risk.

BIBI didn’t shy away from a viral mishap, recounting a near-wardrobe malfunction during the Waterbomb Festival when her t-shirt got stuck while removing it. “Thankfully, the tape I used saved the day,” she laughed.

Looking ahead, she talked about her upcoming world tour and her determination to succeed not just for herself, but for her crew. “A band of 10, 16 dancers… they deserve to fly business. I want to do that for them,” she affirmed, showing her commitment to her craft and team.

This memorable Radio Star episode aired Wednesday at 10:30 PM KST, leaving fans inspired by BIBI’s fearless expression of her complexities—both as an artist and a symbol of a generation pushing the boundaries of Korean entertainment.
