Beautiful As Heaven Finale Explores Reincarnation and Eternal Love

Emotional final episode of Beautiful As Heaven shows Kim Hyeja and Son Seokgu embracing reincarnation

As the beloved JTBC weekend drama Beautiful As Heaven prepares for its final episode, audiences are bracing for a poignant conclusion filled with love, loss, and the mysteries of the afterlife. On June 25th, ahead of the 12th and final episode, newly released stills from the drama teased an emotional journey of reincarnation shared by the central characters Lee Hae-sook (played by Kim Hye-ja) and Go Nak-jun (played by Son Seok-gu).

The drama has captivated viewers with its imaginative narrative, intertwining elements of the afterlife and transcendent love. In the previous episode, Som-i’s (played by Han Ji-min) true identity was revealed as the embodiment of Lee Hae-sook’s repressed memories and unprocessed grief. Having lost her son, she had buried the pain so deeply that it became a separate entity. Her act of self-forgiveness in the metaphorical ‘gray hell’ allowed Som-i to fade away, giving Hae-sook emotional closure.

Meanwhile, their son Go Eun-ho—also known as ‘The Pastor’ and portrayed by Ryu Deok-hwan—chose to be reincarnated, continuing the cycle of life and spirit. Now, the newly released stills show Hae-sook and Nak-jun waving to heavenly staff at the reincarnation center, indicating that they, too, will be reborn. This symbolic moment cements their eternal bond, not only in life and death but in the life beyond.

One preview scene even shows Nak-jun softly asking Hae-sook, “What if we were to reincarnate?”—a heartwarming and intimate ‘proposal’ of sorts. In another emotionally charged image, the couple stands face to face at the threshold of a reincarnation gate, exchanging loving glances as a new journey awaits them on the other side.

In the finale airing today, their vow to return as spouses in their next lives promises an emotionally fulfilling ending for viewers. The production team hinted, “We’ve explored Lee Hae-sook’s relationships through the present life, afterlife, and past life. Watch how she and Go Nak-jun are destined to reconnect as a married couple.”

Beautiful As Heaven has skillfully danced between the realms of reality and the spiritual, sculpting a narrative that asks whether love can truly transcend the boundaries of time, memory, and mortality.
