Bae Doona Explores Unpredictable Romance in Upcoming Film ‘Virus’

Bae Doona reunites with Son Suk ku in Netflix inspired movie Virus with deadly love twist

South Korean actress Bae Doona sat down at a café in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 30th to promote her upcoming movie, Virus, which opens in theaters on July 7.

Virus tells the story of Taek-seon (portrayed by Bae Doona), who is infected with a deadly virus that causes people to fall in love without reason—with a fatality rate of 100%. This film follows her unexpected journey with three men: Su-pil, a virgin researcher played by Son Suk-ku; Yeon-woo, an old friend played by Jang Ki-ha; and Lee Gyun, the only expert capable of developing a cure, portrayed by Kim Yun-seok.

In the film’s early scenes, Taek-seon meets Su-pil on a blind date that quickly becomes awkward due to Su-pil’s abrupt confession. The two actors channel their well-established chemistry, cultivated through past work in the Netflix series Sense8 (2015–2018) and the drama The Best Divorce (2018).

Bae Doona reflected on the experience, sharing, “We’ve worked together so often that filming was a lot of fun. Especially during the date scene and the night he visits my house, we really got into the groove.”

She added with a laugh, “After the press screening, we were having a meal, and Kim Yun-seok sunbae jokingly called it ‘confession violence.’ Considering how both Taek-seon and Su-pil pushed boundaries, the term felt pretty accurate.”

Virus opens nationwide on July 7, promising an unconventional take on romance, humor, and human vulnerability.
