Ahn Jae-hong Brings Superpowered Charm to Life in Upcoming Film ‘High Five’
Ahn Jae-hong, the acclaimed South Korean actor, is set to take audiences on a thrilling ride with the upcoming film High Five, hitting theaters on June 30. Known for his grounded, sincere approach to acting mixed with natural wit, Ahn offered a thoughtful glimpse into both his process and the production atmosphere during a recent photo shoot and interview.
Describing High Five as a movie that feels like a rollercoaster ride, Ahn said, “It’s exhilarating and satisfying. Of course, I feel a bit nervous before the release, but since we had such an enjoyable time filming, I’m excited for the world to see it.”
He highlighted the film’s emphasis on teamwork, calling the moments of collective synergy “some of the most electrifying.” Ahn expressed hope that audiences would feel the same rush of emotion when watching the movie. “That feeling of powerful collaboration really moved me, and I hope viewers experience that same thrill.”
Ahn didn’t hesitate to share his admiration for High Five director Kang Hyoung-chul: “Director Kang was a calm yet charismatic force. He led everyone effortlessly, creating an immersive set that felt alive and collaborative.”
In the film, Ahn plays Park Ji-sung—a character with the supernatural ability to generate powerful gusts of wind. He explained, “I wanted to visually embody the idea of wind, so I grew out my hair to capture that image. Ji-sung’s power is straightforward yet symbolic.”
The actor revealed the level of detail he put into the role, tailoring his movements to match the varying density and strength of wind: “For short bursts, I performed with high pressure; for longer sequences, I coordinated my breathing and expression with wind machines. Every scene required precision.”
Reflecting on an interview from 11 years ago in which he stated his goal was to act ‘diligently, joyfully, and accurately,’ Ahn said, “I was surprised that not only did I say that back then—but that I still feel the same way. My goal remains to act well, have fun, and express emotions with accuracy.”
On what it means to act ‘accurately,’ he elaborated: “It’s about portraying a moment and an emotion as close to the truth as possible—without exaggeration or underplaying. Though ‘accuracy’ might seem abstract, striving for it defines the essence of my performance.”
