Ahn Hyo-seop Set to Dominate Summer with Blockbuster Debut and Hollywood Voice Role
Rising Korean star Ahn Hyo-seop is heating up the global entertainment scene this summer with two major projects: his debut film ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint’ and his first-ever English voice acting performance in the animated feature ‘K-Pop: Demon Hunters’.
Slated for a July release, ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint’ is based on the mega-hit Korean web novel that has garnered over 200 million views. This fantasy action blockbuster tells the story of a regular office worker, Kim Dok-ja, whose life turns upside down when the fictional world of a novel he has been reading for over a decade becomes reality. As the protagonist, Ahn Hyo-seop plays the titular role of Kim Dok-ja, marking an impressive screen debut.
He is joined by K-drama titan Lee Min-ho, who plays Yoo Jung-hyuk, the hero of the original novel. Their bromantic synergy is expected to capture the hearts of fans worldwide. Also appearing in the film are Jisoo from BLACKPINK and actress Nana, cementing the movie as one of the most star-studded of the year. The high-budget teaser, which surpassed 620,000 views within three days, showcases a post-apocalyptic Seoul and dramatic action, thrilling fans with glimpses of the film’s ambitious scale and stunning visuals.
Before the blockbuster hits theaters, Ahn took on another challenge: his voice acting debut in ‘K-Pop: Demon Hunters’, scheduled for global streaming release on Netflix on June 20 across 190 countries. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation, the studio behind ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’, the animated film reimagines global K-pop idols as demon slayers by night. Ahn voices Jin-woo, the charismatic leader of a fictional boy band, performing all dialogue in English.
The film is directed by Korean-American filmmaker Maggie Kang and boasts an ensemble cast that includes Arden Cho, Daniel Dae Kim, and Ken Jeong. Adding to the film’s musical appeal, top girl group TWICE members Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung lend their voices to the original soundtrack.
With these two culturally influential projects, Ahn Hyo-seop is poised to become a prominent face in both East Asian blockbusters and Western media, pushing the boundaries for what a Korean actor can achieve on a global scale.
