Lee Sang-i’s Charismatic Performance in JTBC’s New Drama
Lee Sang-i’s Transformation in Good Boy
Lee Sang-i has captivated viewers with his performance in Joongang Tongyang Broadcasting Company’s (JTBC) new weekend drama, Good Boy. The actor portrays Kim Jong-hyun, a former fencing silver medalist turned detective in the elite special forces team. Lee’s ability to balance the character’s cold charisma with warm sensitivity has introduced an irreplaceable persona on screen.
#### A Dynamic Performance
In episodes one and two, Lee showcased his range as an actor, transitioning from a calm and gentle voice to a commanding presence. His initial scene, sharing a tense moment with Yoon Dong-joo (played by Park Bo-gum) and Ji Hanna (played by Kim So-hyun), set the tone for the compelling drama.
His portrayal of Detective Kim, a newcomer to the Internal Affairs division, was both intense and persuasive. In one scene, a team leader unsatisfied with Kim’s investigations confronts him, only for Kim to deliver a sharp remark, “Does someone as experienced as you take bribes?”, with unwavering composure.
#### Emotional Depth
Despite his hardened exterior, Lee conveys Kim’s softer side in his interactions with former lover Ji Hanna. When she witnessed Kim being grabbed by the collar, his genuine smile and calm response revealed his complex nature.
Lee’s performance further excelled in an action-packed sequence, where Kim, using a broom as a makeshift fencing sword, skillfully defended Ji Hanna from attackers. The actor’s physical prowess and intuitive instincts were highlighted, leaving a strong impression.
#### A Broadened Spectrum
Throughout Good Boy, Lee demonstrated his versatility, seamlessly moving between moments of stern leadership, affectionate encounters, and pivotal confrontations. His vivid portrayal of Kim’s internal struggles, particularly during a panic-inducing flashback to his fencing days, added depth to his character.
Lee Sang-i’s nuanced expression of emotions has been praised, with viewers commenting, “Lee Sang-i’s performance is remarkable! His fencing moves were incredible and captivating.”
