A Turning Point in ‘Please Take Care of My Refrigerator’: Han Geum-joo Chooses Sobriety

Sooyoung confronts addiction and heartbreak in episode 4 of Please Take Care of My Refrigerator

In the latest episode of tvN’s drama ‘Please Take Care of My Refrigerator’, Han Geum-joo, played by Sooyoung Choi, finally resolves to quit drinking with the solemn support of Seo Yi-soo (Gong Myung).

Episode 4, aired on the 20th, opens with Seo Yi-soo discovering the truth behind Geum-joo’s broken engagement. After witnessing her ex-fiancé Ju-yeop (Yu Ui-tae) at a gynecology clinic alongside another woman, Yi-soo seeks out Geum-joo who is found drinking alone in the forest, devastated and lost.

Despite pouring out her emotions to Yi-soo that night, Geum-joo awakens with no memory of the outburst—a telltale sign of blackout caused by alcohol. When asked about the night before, she shakes her head, denying any recollection. Concerned, Yi-soo suggests taking an alcohol dependency self-assessment test, which reveals a worrying score of 40, double the addiction threshold. Still in denial, Geum-joo insists she’s merely a ‘social drinker.’

Yi-soo persists, inviting Geum-joo’s family to an alcohol addiction awareness seminar where blackouts are described as early signs of severe dependency. Geum-joo, rattled, begins to question if she might have crossed a line, while Yi-soo firmly yet gently assures her of his genuine concern.

On what was supposed to be her wedding day, chaos erupts when a wedding-bound bus arrives in their village. While Geum-joo’s mother, Kim Kwang-ok (Kim Seong-ryeong), reacts angrily to the unrevoked reservation, Yi-soo diffuses the tension, claiming it was arranged for community elders. He boards the bus with Geum-joo, who eventually disembarks alone, determined to confront the situation in Seoul herself.

Standing at a wedding hall, Geum-joo imagines a scene of revenge—smashing a champagne bottle over Ju-yeop’s head. But reality prevails. She quietly downs a bottle of soju and walks away, unwilling to shame her family.

Meanwhile, Yi-soo uncovers Ju-yeop’s false narrative blaming their breakup on Geum-joo’s drinking. Outraged, he subtly sabotages the groom’s wedding car—his own quiet act of rebellion. Later, on a bridge over Han River, he finds Geum-joo deep in thought. She recalls her blackout conversation and confirms she truly wants to stop drinking. “Help me, Yi-soo,” she asks sincerely, and he silently agrees, sharing a supportive smile.

The episode closes ominously with a mysterious man watching Yi-soo’s seminar video, muttering, “I found you, Seo Yi-soo,” while glaring with hatred, teasing more drama ahead.
