I-dle Opens Up About Name Change and Creative Growth on KBS2 Music Show
K-pop sensation I-dle made a special appearance on ‘The Seasons: Cantabile by Park Bo-gum’, aired on KBS2 on the 23rd. Centered around the theme “No Break, Keep Going,” the episode highlighted the group’s journey as they enter their 7th year in the industry.
Host Park Bo-gum kicked off the segment by reminiscing about a 2022 Music Bank world tour performance with I-dle’s Minnie. “We shared the stage—me on the piano, Minnie on vocals. I was captivated by her voice,” he confessed. He even surprised Minnie by recalling it was her birthday during that performance. “How did you remember? That’s amazing. I’m honored,” the Thai singer reacted with astonishment.
During their candid conversation, Park Bo-gum asked about the group’s official name change. Leader Soyeon explained, “When we debuted, it was just ‘I-dle’. But media started referring to us as ‘yeoja I-dle (girl I-dle)’. We wanted to fix it once more people knew us, but it wasn’t easy. Now, seven years in, we’ve officially changed it to ‘I-dle.’”
Soyeon also spoke about their latest mini-album ‘We are’ and the title track ‘Good Thing’. “I’ve always written and composed our title tracks, but this time every member joined in producing. We believe in telling our stories ourselves,” she emphasized.
The appearance comes just after the group renewed their contracts with Cube Entertainment at the end of 2023. Their 8th mini-album marks a new chapter for the group, both creatively and professionally.
