Disney+’s Thrilling New Series ‘Nine Puzzle’ Unveils a Chilling Serial Killer Mystery
Disney+ has once again raised the bar for psychological thrillers with its latest original K-drama ‘Nine Puzzle’, which released episodes 1 through 6 on May 21. The show immediately captivated global audiences with a complex serial murder mystery that blends trauma, suspicion, and dark pasts into a gripping narrative.
Set a decade after a tragic murder that claimed the life of profiler Ina’s (played by Kim Da-mi) only family member, her uncle Yoon Dong-hoon (played by Ji Jin-hee), Nine Puzzle unfolds as Ina, now a seasoned criminal profiler with no memory of the crime, finds herself pulled back into a new wave of killings. Detective Han Saem (Son Seok-gu), who has never stopped suspecting her, rejoins her in this renewed hunt for a chilling murderer who seems tied to their shared past.
The thriller intensifies as a mysterious puzzle piece, identical to one found at the original crime scene, is delivered to Ina—right as she becomes the first witness to a new murder. Realizing a serial killer has returned, Ina alerts Han Saem and joins the Violent Crimes Unit to start an uneasy investigation together. Past trauma, suspicion, and undeniable chemistry fuel their dynamic partnership as they race to decode the next move of a criminal hiding in the shadows.
Adding to the intrigue is psychologist Seung-ju (Park Gyu-young), who helps Ina piece together suppressed memories. The deeper they dig, the more cryptic the mystery becomes. Key new characters emerge—such as Kang Chi-mok (Lee Hee-joon), a former lover of the first victim who goes missing, and his eerie wife Seo Yang-hee (Ok Ja-yeon)—unfolding new layers of suspicion. When Do Yoon-soo (Lee Sung-min) of DH Construction is revealed to have been in contact with Chi-mok before his disappearance, the puzzle expands into a web of deception and deep secrets.
Every episode ends with cliffhangers that heighten speculation about the killer’s identity. “I remember it now, finally,” Ina says, as she recalls a key detail from the original crime: the real culprit was at the scene. The stakes continue to rise—especially as Ina moves into Han Saem’s home to establish their investigation base, cozying up a noir partnership that attracts fans worldwide.
Directed by Yoon Jong-bin, known for his stylish, high-tension storytelling, and accompanied by a powerful ensemble led by Kim Da-mi and Son Seok-gu, Nine Puzzle offers viewers the thrill of guessing the hidden truth behind every puzzle piece. As more episodes debut on May 28, anticipation is building around the remaining ‘hidden piece’ characters and how each contributes to the terrifying puzzle building before our eyes.
