Mechanism Debuts with ‘Broken Time Machine’ Featuring Jo Hye-ryun and Peppertones

A new musical venture is taking the spotlight in South Korea, as multi-talented entertainer Jo Hye-ryun joins forces with beloved indie band Peppertones (members Shin Jae-pyung and Lee Jang-won) to form a genre-blending trio named Mechanism.

On June 21, Mechanism officially launched their debut digital single, ‘Broken Time Machine’, available on major music streaming platforms.

The title track, ‘Broken Time Machine’, is a soft medium-tempo piece elevated by lyrical melodies and emotional storytelling. Through a play on the idea of a malfunctioning time machine, the song explores the universal human desire to return to simpler childhood days—striving to capture that longing in a poetic yet realistic lens.

Alongside the title song, the single features ‘I’ve Become Pi (π)’, a lighthearted and funky tune that showcases the synergy between Jo Hye-ryun’s witty persona and Peppertones’ smooth rhythm. The track uses the mathematical term ‘pi’ as a clever pun, adding a layer of surprising depth to the groove-filled melody.

Adding even more excitement, national television personality Yoo Jae-suk, known for his comedic timing and longstanding connection to the trio through the show ‘Pinggyego’, participated in both music videos. He delivers meaningful storytelling in ‘Broken Time Machine’ and an entertaining performance for ‘I’ve Become Pi,’ increasing the anticipation among fans.

Both music videos premiered simultaneously with the release on the popular YouTube channel DdeunDdeun, promising viewers not only compelling music but visually engaging narratives as well.

The creative process was deeply collaborative: Jo Hye-ryun penned the lyrics, while Peppertones handled the composition and arrangement. Their combined artistic strengths result in songs filled with positive energy, humor, and emotional warmth.

As Jo Hye-ryun stated during their time on ‘Pinggyego’, “I hope people find strength and comfort through our music.” As Mechanism sets the stage with this debut, they aim to resonate with audiences by offering authentic encouragement via an innovative musical style.
