How Christmas Carols Became a Prenatal Playlist on Korea’s Hit Show ‘Line Family’
In the upcoming 83rd episode of Line Family, set to air on June 15 at 8:10 p.m. KST on Channel A, viewers will be treated to heartwarming and humorous stories surrounding music and maternal bonding. Hosted by former football star Ahn Jung-Hwan, celebrity couple appearances, and international guests, the episode will shine a light on how parents are blending music and family traditions, both old and new.
Among the highlights is a segment featuring Austria-based couple Cha Seo-yul and Hoo Kang-won, who return to the show along with their unborn child, affectionately nicknamed “Albamie.” Known as a die-hard fan of Korean superstar Lim Young-woong, Hoo Kang-won dedicated his baby’s first lullabies to Young-woong’s iconic hit My Starlight Love. He even placed the baby’s first shoes in a special section of his Lim Young-woong memorabilia shrine, charming everyone on set.
Hosts Ahn Jung-Hwan and his wife, Lee Hye-won, couldn’t help but joke, saying, “It feels like this baby will be chanting ‘Gunhaeng!’ from the moment he’s born.” But things took an even more unique turn when the Austrian family talked about their plans for a “Mozart prenatal trip” to Salzburg, the composer’s hometown—citing the popular “Mozart Effect” theory that links classical music to increased intelligence in infants.
This led to Lee Hye-won sharing her own unforgettable prenatal memories. “When I was pregnant with our second child, Ri-hwan, I played Christmas carols for prenatal education. Since the due date was in December, we had both slow and fast versions of carols ready—adjusting the tempo to match the intensity of the contractions,” she said with a laugh.
Ahn Jung-Hwan joined in, recalling, “Hye-won was a prenatal music DJ for 12 straight hours during labor. Every time the contractions intensified, she’d switch to a faster carol.”
This unconventional technique seemingly paid off. “Even now, when we play carols, Ri-hwan falls asleep almost instantly. And guess what—he’s playing the trumpet today,” Lee said proudly, wrapping up the heartwarming segment with a touching success story of music and motherhood.
