Korean Actor Jin Tae-hyun Faces Thyroid Cancer Surgery Amid Busy TV Career
South Korean actor Jin Tae-hyun has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and is scheduled to undergo surgery in mid-June. According to a recent report, a tumor has been discovered in his thyroid, prompting the need for surgical removal at a local hospital.
Despite the diagnosis, Jin Tae-hyun plans to continue his professional commitments. He is maintaining his health regimen while balancing current work schedules, including his co-hosting role on JTBC’s reality show ‘Marriage Counseling Camp’, alongside Seo Jang-hoon and actress Park Ha-sun.
Since joining the program, Jin has provided heartfelt advice as a representative from the husband’s side, earning viewers’ empathy for his sincerity in supporting couples on the verge of separation.
Concerns arose earlier this month when news of his cancer diagnosis broke, raising questions about his continued participation in the show. However, the production team reassured fans by confirming that filming schedules have been adjusted in close consultation with Jin. “There are no planned cast changes at this time, and we wish Jin Tae-hyun a swift recovery,” said a JTBC spokesperson.
Jin Tae-hyun revealed that he received the diagnosis during a routine medical check-up with his wife, Sieun Park, around May 21. On June 7, Jin addressed his health status on social media, writing that the cancer was detected early and is still minor, but requires surgery before it spreads.
He also attributed his health issues to prolonged personal stress and thanked his wife and pet dogs for being his source of strength. Jin mentioned that his active lifestyle—including marathon training and cycling—has helped him maintain physical resilience through troubling times.
“Until the surgery, I’ll continue filming and honoring my overseas schedules while resting strategically,” Jin assured followers. “Despite people calling it a ‘kind’ or ‘slow’ cancer, it’s still cancer. My wife and I were caught off guard but remain determined to overcome it like we always have.”
He concluded with a promise: “Right now, I’m focused on my wife, the show, and training for the upcoming fall marathon. I will beat this and return stronger—as an actor, a celebrity, and a marathoner.”
