Korean Actress Kim Bo Ra Announces Divorce Just 11 Months After Wedding
South Korean actress Kim Bo Ra has officially ended her marriage just 11 months after tying the knot with director Jo Barun. Her agency, Noon Company, confirmed on June 10 that the couple had recently completed their divorce proceedings following ‘thoughtful discussions and mutual agreement.’
The couple, who met on the set of the horror film Grotesque Mansion where Jo served as director and Kim as the leading actress, had dated for over three years before holding their wedding ceremony in June of last year. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last a full year.
In a statement from Noon Company, the agency expressed: “We are truly sorry to share this unfortunate news with those who have always given warm support.” The statement also asked the public and media to refrain from spreading speculation, falsehoods, or sensationalized rumors.
Interestingly, prior to the agency’s announcement, Kim Bo Ra updated her fans by posting behind-the-scenes photos from her recent appearance at the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival via her personal Social Networking Service (SNS) account. The photos showed her holding the script for the ceremony and snapshots from the afterparty. The image was accompanied by a cryptic caption that read “We were happy,” sparking speculation among fans about her emotional state.
Kim Bo Ra hosted the closing ceremony of the Jeonju International Film Festival, which wrapped on May 9. Her composed presence at such a public event, alongside the later revelation of her divorce, caught the attention of both fans and the media.
Kim made her debut in 2005 as a child actress in the KBS2 drama Wedding. She gained widespread recognition through her role in the hit series Sky Castle and has since appeared in a string of notable dramas and films including Touch, Flowers in the Sand, Snow White to Death – Blackout, Oksoo Station Ghost, and Moral Sense.
Her ex-husband Jo Barun debuted in 2016 with his short film Vibration, which earned him the Korean Fantastic Short Film Award at the 21st Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. He is also credited for directing films such as Gang and Grotesque Mansion.
As the news of the couple’s separation circulates, Kim Bo Ra continues to update her fans and focus on her career in entertainment. If anything, her poised demeanor amidst this personal transition hints at a resilient chapter ahead.
