Joy Hyun and Choo Young-woo Reunite in Fantasy Teen Romance ‘Gyeonu and Seonnyeo’
South Korean actors Joy Hyun and Choo Young-woo are set to return to the small screen with Gyeonu and Seonnyeo, an upcoming tvN fantasy-romance drama based on a popular webtoon. The series, premiering this June, blends whimsical shamanism with heart-fluttering first love, creating a unique teen narrative full of mystery, ghosts, and emotional healing.
Joy Hyun plays Park Sung-ah, an MZ Shaman who leads a dual life — an ordinary high school student by day, and a spiritual guide by night. One day, her fate takes a sharp turn when Bae Gyeon-woo (played by Choo Young-woo), a boy born under a fatal destiny, walks into her temple in reverse — a traditional omen of death. As the spiritual world declares Gyeon-woo cursed, Sung-ah becomes his literal lucky charm, determined to defy fate and preserve his life.
The teaser posters reveal intriguing visuals: a schoolgirl shaman gripping bells, and a love talisman pierced by an arrow atop a heart-shaped target — hinting at the show’s central theme: defeating destiny for the sake of first love. The English title Head Over Heels adds a romantic yet ominous touch, reflecting the upside-down nature of their journey together.
Choo Young-woo, who stars as Gyeon-woo, portrays a former archery prodigy with a tough exterior but a warm heart weighed down by continual misfortunes. His encounter with the spirited and determined Park Sung-ah gradually brings color back into his life, and perhaps, alters his destiny forever.
This marks a reunion for Joy Hyun and Choo Young-woo, who previously starred together in School 2021. Fans are eager to witness their on-screen chemistry once again, especially under the mystical lens of shamanic traditions and K-Ghost narratives unique to Korean culture.
Director Kim Yong-wan and screenwriter Yang Ji-hoon promise a rollercoaster of emotions, saying, “Witness how Joy Hyun and Choo Young-woo become each other’s salvation, turning youth’s most painful challenges into moments of healing and lasting love.”
