Jung Eun-ji Steals the Show with Her Lovable Performance in ‘24-Hour Gym’

Apink star Jung Eunji impresses fans with her role as Mi ran in 24Hour Gym drama series

Jung Eun-ji, member of the popular K-pop group Apink, lit up the screen with her charming and comical performance in the recent episode of KBS 2TV’s Wednesday-Thursday drama 24-Hour Gym. The show, penned by Kim Ji-soo and directed by Park Jun-soo and Choi Yeon-soo, showcases Eun-ji in the role of Lee Mi-ran, a heartbroken yet determined rookie gym member on a journey of transformation and healing.

In the latest episode aired on June 7, Mi-ran, devastated after a public humiliation at a colleague’s wedding, seeks solace in food and drags the quirky gym director Do Hyun-jung (played by Lee Jun-young) to a local pork intestine restaurant. The scene where Hyun-jung knocks away her lettuce wrap, leading to Mi-ran’s exaggerated lament, drew hearty laughs from viewers.

The drama continues its quirky route as Mi-ran impressively maintains a squat position on a suddenly halted bus, recalling Hyun-jung’s quote, “Squats help you stand tall and find the strength within.” Her resilience earns applause from fellow passengers—and undoubtedly the audience as well.

Mi-ran’s food adventures don’t end there. Tasked by Hyun-jung with helping new gym member Kang Cheol-nam (portrayed by Jo Jung-chi) regain his appetite, Mi-ran orchestrates a grand culinary mission. Dubbed the “Land-Sea-Air Operation,” she tours the city’s tastiest spots, from rich pork dishes to sweet cotton candy beverages, to revive his taste buds.

She not only becomes his food guide but also uplifts his spirits, reassuring him, “You’re changing too, just like me.” This heartfelt moment resonates with viewers navigating their own personal hurdles.

Tension builds as Mi-ran finds herself torn between staying loyal to Hyun-jung’s 24-Hour Gym or switching to a new facility launched by Lee Ro-i (Kim Kwon). Ultimately, Hyun-jung’s passionate plea, “I’ll burn all your visceral fat,” wins her back. Her decision to return, promising to fetch her sneakers, adds to the anticipation for what’s next.

With her endearing blend of slapstick comedy, emotional nuance, and subtle sparks of romance, Jung Eun-ji continues to prove her mettle as an actress. Her evolving portrayal of Mi-ran mirrors relatable struggles between discipline and indulgence, making 24-Hour Gym a must-watch.

24-Hour Gym airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:50 PM on KBS 2TV.
