Korean Street Food Showdown: Lyu Soo-young’s Team Serves Up Victory in ‘Street Food Vending’

Celebrity chef and actor Lyu Soo young wins first food battle with Kimchi Fried Rice set

On the latest episode of JTBC’s ‘Street Food Vending’, K-drama star and now celebrity chef Lyu Soo-young showcased more than just his charm—he displayed his culinary prowess leading his team to victory. The team sold an impressive 42 servings of their featured dish set, the beloved Kimchi Fried Rice and Collarbone Soup, surpassing Chef Fabri’s team, which served 38 bowls of Iberico Seafood Jjamppong.

Set in the vibrant city of Cádiz, Spain, Lyu’s growing popularity as a skilled chef drew in a loyal customer base, preventing any sales slump. Together with K-stars Bae In-hyeok and Jeon So-mi, the team exhibited flawless teamwork built from previous collaborations, leading to smooth operations throughout the competition.

In contrast, Fabri’s team looked more like a casual gathering of locals at their favorite food joint, but that didn’t stop the Michelin-Starred Chef from impressing. Fabri tailored a mild, umami-packed version of his signature seafood noodle dish for spice-sensitive customers and even gifted his elegant brass bowls to delighted guests.

Despite strong winds affecting cooking conditions, Fabri’s precision and composure prevailed. His teammate, entertainer Hwang Kwang-hee, added emotional warmth by accepting delayed payments from a customer—only to have it honored later, showcasing a heartfelt moment.

Taking it up a notch in round two, both teams crafted customizable menus based on customer tastes. Lyu’s team offered crispy fried cod with three gourmet sauces—from a soy-pineapple blend to a secret spicy bomb—while Jeon So-mi’s Myeolchi Pincho side dish garnered rave reviews.

On the opposite side, Fabri’s bowl creations ranged across 15 combinations using a “K-Mom” sauce lineup and various proteins. With Hwang organizing orders by toppings and rising star Shin Hyun-ji entertaining guests during wait times, the team maintained an upbeat rhythm despite longer prep times.

The epic fry vs. stir-fry battle continues in the next episode of ‘Street Food Vending’, airing June 13 at 10:40 PM KST on JTBC. Will Lyu’s success streak continue, or will Fabri make a comeback?
