IU Celebrates Children’s Day with $112,000 Donation to Support Vulnerable Youth
South Korean singer-songwriter IU marked Children’s Day this year with a generous philanthropic gesture, continuing her long-standing tradition of giving back.
On May 5, her agency EDAM Entertainment announced that IU donated KRW 150 million (approximately USD 112,000) under the name of IUAENA—a combination of her name and her fan club UAENA.
The donation has been allocated to support both disabled children and youth transitioning out of institutional care. Specifically, KRW 62 million was given to Eden Ivil to create special spaces for self-reliant youth and fund gifts and events for Children’s Day. An additional KRW 90 million was distributed to Hanlove Village and Hanlove Infant Home to cover the replacement of outdated boilers and to support medical rehabilitation treatments and Children’s Day celebrations for children with disabilities.
Since her debut in 2008, IU has consistently donated on significant occasions such as her debut anniversary, birthday, and during year-end holidays, always using the IUAENA name. She was named one of Forbes Asia’s 30 Heroes of Philanthropy in 2019—the youngest to make the list at the time. Earlier this year in March, IU donated KRW 200 million to aid wildfire recovery in the Gyeongsang region and to improve firefighter welfare.
Meanwhile, IU recently impressed audiences with a stunning dual-role performance in the Netflix series and is now preparing for her next screen appearance in ’21세기 대군 부인.’
