Mystic Romance and Supernatural Tensions Rise in SBS’s ‘The Ghost’s Palace’
The latest episode of SBS’s Friday-Saturday fantasy rom-com drama Gwigung (The Ghost’s Palace) intensifies its supernatural stakes as lead characters portrayed by Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon summon a new, vengeful spirit.
At the heart of the plot is Yeori, a shaman defying her destiny, caught in a web of complex emotions and mystical threats. Trapped in her first love’s body, the serpent spirit Kang-cheol must battle alongside Yeori against the fearsome supernatural being known as ‘Palgwi-Gwi’. Add to this the beginnings of a reluctant alliance with Prince Lee-jeong, played by Kim Ji-hoon, and the stage is set for an epic showdown.
Last week’s episode left viewers shocked as Prince Yeongin (played by Kim Sun-bin) was offered as a sacrifice in a cunning plot by Pungsan (played by Kim Sang-ho). As the protagonists prepare to confront Palgwi-Gwi directly, the drama unveils a brutal revelation: Kang-cheol must exhaust all his luminous beads—stored within his own body—and sacrifice himself to defeat the cursed spirit.
In a dramatic teaser for episode six, a tense riverside scene unfolds where Yeori and Kang-cheol perform a ritual to summon an even more fearsome spirit called ‘Sugwi’. The images reveal the two under intense emotional strain—Yeori, wrapped in white ceremonial cloth, reaches out to Kang-cheol with piercing determination. As the cloth tightens between them, Kang-cheol fights back the magical forces, sweat, and fear evident in his soaked form.
The breathtaking visual tension hints that this ‘Sugwi’ harbors a story of deep malice, likely tied with royal grudges and lost souls. Whether this powerful new entity will stand as ally or adversary remains a mystery, adding yet another captivating layer to the show’s intricate mythical lore.
Blending traditional shamanic elements, palace intrigue, and eerie folklore, ‘The Ghost’s Palace’ continues to captivate K-drama fans both in Korea and abroad. Episode 6 airs tonight at 9:55 PM KST on SBS.
