Highlight Returns with Deep Charisma and a Powerful Performance on M Countdown
South Korean K-pop group Highlight (comprised of members Yoon Doo-joon, Yang Yo-seop, Lee Gi-kwang, and Son Dong-woon) made a striking comeback through their appearance on Mnet’s M Countdown on June 1st, delivering the first televised performance of their sixth mini album From Real to Surreal.
Opening with a pre-performance interview, Highlight re-introduced themselves as both Highlight and BEAST, saying, “In truth, BEAST is Highlight, and Highlight is BEAST. We’re finally here under the name BEAST as many fans had hoped.” The statement quickly fueled waves of nostalgia and anticipation among longtime fans, hinting at more versatile promotions under both names.
The group debuted two songs from their latest album—B-side track Endless End and the title track Chains. Turning the stage into a cinematic performance, the members showcased their mature masculinity and experienced stage presence, inviting praise for their detailed expressions, sharp synchronization, and compelling charisma.
Chains, the highlight of the night, captured attention with its sultry groove and stylish visual styling. As choreography met seasoned chemistry, Highlight displayed a performance only possible through 16 years of experience, reinforcing their status as true veterans in the K-pop scene.
According to the group’s agency, the album From Real to Surreal expresses the hope that their stories—told through music—transcend time, lingering both as real and surreal experiences. Since its release, the album has seen success across major platforms, with all four tracks including Good Day to You and Follow Me charting on South Korea’s real-time music charts. Additionally, the album appeared on iTunes’ Top Albums charts in 17 different countries, proving their sustained global influence.
As Highlight celebrates their 16th debut anniversary, fans can expect them to continue with enthusiastic promotions across various music shows in the coming weeks.
