Marry My Husband Japanese Remake Set to Premiere on Prime Video This June
CJ ENM is expanding the K-drama boom to a global audience with a Japanese remake of its blockbuster series ‘Marry My Husband’, set to premiere on Prime Video on June 27.
Based on a popular Korean web novel of the same name, Marry My Husband originally aired on tvN in South Korea in early 2024. Produced by Studio Dragon and planned by CJ ENM, the drama quickly gained international acclaim for its gripping revenge plot — a woman witnesses her husband’s affair with her best friend, is murdered, and gets a second chance to rewrite her fate.
The series soared in popularity, topping tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama ratings and making history as the first Korean series to reach No.1 on Prime Video’s Global Daily TV Show rankings. It also ranked #3 in NME’s ‘Top 10 Korean Dramas of 2024’.
Riding this momentum, CJ ENM Japan and Studio Dragon have teamed up with Japanese production houses to create an original Japanese adaptation titled ‘私の夫と結婚して (Marry My Husband)’. This is not merely a remake of the Korean drama but a new series rooted in the original web novel’s storyline, tailored for a Japanese audience.
The production is a multinational collaboration between Korea’s Jayu-ro Pictures and Japan’s iconic film studio Shochiku. Behind the camera is veteran K-drama director Ahn Gil-ho, known for global hits like The Glory, Memories of the Alhambra, and Stranger.
The star-studded Japanese cast includes rising actress Koshiba Fūka in the lead role, alongside celebrated actor Satoh Takeru. Notable names like Shiraishi Sei and Yokoyama Yuu further elevate audience expectations.
On the scriptwriting front, the remake boasts a screenplay by Oshima Satomi, acclaimed for writing the emotional classic 1 Litre of Tears and for her recent award from the Japan Academy for A Ninety-Year-Old’s Happy Occasion. Korean producers Son Ja-young from Studio Dragon and Lee Sang-hwa of CJ ENM’s Global Content Team round out the cross-national production team.
This marks a significant moment in cross-cultural entertainment — a K-drama team producing a J-drama with globally recognized storytelling prowess. As CJ ENM commemorates its 30th anniversary in the cultural content industry, this ambitious project signals bold steps forward in international drama production.
According to a CJ ENM spokesperson, “We’re thrilled to bring the beloved Marry My Husband to audiences worldwide via Prime Video. With our growing recognition in global content capabilities, we’re developing a variety of international projects through collaborations with local studios and platforms. This Korea-Japan joint project aims to set new standards in the global drama market.”
The Japanese version of Marry My Husband will consist of 10 episodes and premiere exclusively on Prime Video. A Korean broadcast platform will be announced at a later date.
