Former SBS Announcer Kim Soo-min Wins Full-Ride Scholarship to UCLA Law School

Former SBS announcer Kim Soo min receives fullride scholarship from UCLA Law School

Kim Soo-min, former announcer at Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), has once again captured public attention by securing a full scholarship to the prestigious UCLA School of Law. At 28, Kim is setting a new chapter in her life by embracing a bold academic pursuit overseas.

On May 30, Kim shared the exciting news with her followers through social media, stating, “The results for the full scholarship interview at UCLA Law School are finally out, and I’m thrilled.” She added, “I never even thought about getting an in-school scholarship, and this makes me happier than the admission itself.”

The scholarship, estimated at around $50,000 (approximately 71 million KRW), will cover most of her tuition fees. “As a foreigner with no study-abroad experience, receiving such an opportunity seems like a miracle,” Kim shared emotionally. “Perhaps it’s thanks to all the prayers people sent my way, or maybe it’s the fruit of my persistence,” she reflected. She also added warmly, “It might even be the luck my children gave me, telling their mom to stay strong.”

Kim is set to begin her Master of Law (LL.M) program at UCLA starting this summer. She expressed her commitment by saying, “I’ll do my best during this one-year program and return stronger.”

Kim Soo-min made headlines in 2018 when she joined SBS at the age of 21, becoming the youngest announcer in the history of the network. She hosted numerous popular shows including Morning Wide, TV Animal Farm, and Hanbam. After leaving SBS in 2021, she transitioned into freelance broadcasting. In 2022, she married a senior prosecutor and is now a mother of two.

Kim’s journey from the studio to the courtroom not only breaks barriers but also inspires many young viewers who see education and ambition as tools to shape a better future. As Kim prepares to step onto the UCLA campus, she carries with her the hopes of many who value resilience and reinvention.
