Seong Yu-bin Reinvents Himself as a Trot Singer with ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’
South Korean singer Seong Yu-bin, known for his rock music background, is stepping into the Trot music scene with his new single, ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’, set to release on May 30. This release marks his official debut as a Trot artist, showcasing a fresh musical direction for the seasoned performer.
The track title, inspired by the familiar children’s song, catches the listener’s attention right from the intro with a catchy and nostalgic melody. The song features witty lyrics that humorously express affection, like “Are you a deer? Why does my heart keep melting?” and “From your head to your toes, you are beautiful,” which pairs effortlessly with an upbeat rhythm driven by the fusion of rock and Trot elements.
Writer Choi Eun-gyeong, recognized for her contributions to various variety and music shows, wrote the lyrics, while Seong Yu-bin demonstrated his prowess not just as a performer but also as a singer-songwriter. This marks a significant evolution in his artistry, with bold experimentation in genre blending.
Since his debut in 2007 with the album ‘Never Forget You’, Seong Yu-bin has showcased his versatility — from contributing to the OST of the memorial film I Will Not Forget You starring his older brother Lee Tae-sung, to performing as part of rock band Before Rain (BOB4), and extending his career through musical theater.
Kim Dae-eun, CEO of his new agency Starmade Entertainment, commented, “His vocal strength, cultivated through years as a rocker, is a distinctive asset as he transitions into Trot. As a singer-songwriter, we look forward to how he continues to infuse the genre with his unique flair.”
With ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’, Seong Yu-bin offers fans a charmingly cheeky and rhythmically vibrant Trot number that not only reinvents a childhood favorite tune but also introduces a rejuvenated facet of his musical persona.
