Trot Rising Star Captivates Korea: Chun Rok-dam’s Electrifying Journey from Busking to Japan

Korean trot singer Chun Rok-dam is quickly becoming a household name, firing up the national stage with his recent appearance on TV Chosun’s ‘Mr. Trot 3 TOP7 Begins – Talk Concert’. Broadcast on the night of the 24th, the episode saw Chun embarking on a dynamic journey as part of a variety retreat in the scenic seaside city of Gangneung.

In the episode’s first major event, Chun Rok-dam surprised visitors at the Samcheok Central Market with a guerilla-style concert. Despite the brisk weather, he drew a full house, opening powerfully with ‘Gangwon Arirang’ and sparking a wave of applause. Living up to his nickname as the “Pro Trot Communicator,” Chun connected intimately with the crowd, elevating the market’s energy by performing the classic trot anthem ‘Apartment’ and successfully completing his first busking session.

The retreat also featured veteran entertainer Lee Kyung-gyu, who offered a masterclass in variety entertainment. Chun Rok-dam not only paid close attention but also impressed with his humorous and timely reactions throughout the session. During Lee’s signature karaoke segment, Chun belted out ‘Mona Lisa’ and exceeded his target score of 90 points, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.

Chun’s whirlwind schedule didn’t end there. He traveled to Japan to celebrate the finals of Mr. Trot Japan, where he teamed up with Kim Yong-bin, Son Bin-a, and Choi Jae-myung for a performance of ‘Memories of Glass’. The group’s blend of strong vocals and synchronized choreography displayed the enduring appeal and professionalism of K-Trot culture on an international stage.

Rising from a self-proclaimed “Trot Newborn” to claiming a high-ranking placement in Mr. Trot 3, Chun has effectively solidified his spot in the next generation of Trot stars. His original color, heartfelt vocals, and growing fandom are fueling expectations for his future.

Looking ahead, Chun Rok-dam is slated to continue engaging with fans nationwide through the Mr. Trot 3 national tour concert and will appear on TV Chosun’s ‘Love Call Center’ airing on May 1 at 10 PM. With every performance, Chun continues to redefine what it means to be the face of Korea’s trot renaissance.
