Hybe Japan Unveils New Boy Group ‘Aoen’
Hybe Corporation’s Japanese label has officially announced the debut lineup for its newest boy band, Aoen. The seven-member group was formed through the Nippon TV audition program ‘応援-HIGH ~夢のスタートライン~’, which aired over two months, starting in February.
Final Members Revealed
The final roster includes Yuju, Ruka, Haku, Sota, Kyosuke, Gaku, and Reo. Initial selections—Yuju, Ruka, Haku, Sota, and Kyosuke—were made during the show’s final live performance. Gaku and Reo were later added through a public vote drawing over 500,000 entries. Gaku led with more than 210,000 votes, stating, “I will never forget this gratitude and aspire to be an artist loved by many.” Reo added, “I’ll strive to show the best of Aoen to everyone.”
Meet the Members
- Gaku: Previously appeared on &Audition – The Howling –. Though he didn’t make the final cut, he refined his skills in singing and dancing. Known for a bright personality, he brings positive energy to Aoen.
- Reo: Nicknamed the “smile angel,” his powerful high notes and expressive performances set him apart.
- Yuju: Dubbed the “visual center,” he is the group’s oldest and stands out for his commanding stage presence and unique performance style.
- Ruka: Having dreamt of becoming an idol since age four, Ruka impressed judges with 17 years of dance experience.
- Haku: Also a former contestant on &Audition – The Howling –, Haku leveraged his ballet-trained physique and delicate vocals to secure a spot in the final lineup.
- Sota: Despite having the shortest trainee period, Sota displayed rapid progress throughout the program, gaining recognition for his potential.
- Kyosuke: An all-rounder in vocal, dance, and visuals, Kyosuke began dancing at age five and has won national competitions in middle school.
Meaning Behind the Name
The group’s name, Aoen, symbolizes the color of the hottest flame—blue—reflecting their burning passion and intensity. Their official fandom has been dubbed Aoring, a combination of “ao” (blue) and “ring,” referencing a circle of connection between artists and fans on this shared journey.
