K-pop Star Kai Trains Like a Soldier in Viral ROTC Episode of ‘Convict Season 6’
Kai, a member of internationally renowned K-pop group EXO, proves he’s more than just a performer in the latest special episode of ‘Convict: A Man Who Changes Majors Daily’ Season 6, produced by OOTB STUDIO. This educational yet hilariously entertaining web series, known for its immersive university experiences, recently unveiled its unique ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) feature in partnership with Konkuk University.
In the ROTC special aired on June 17 on YouTube, Kai dives headfirst into the rigorous life of a cadet, experiencing Korea’s ROTC training firsthand. From performing 72 sit-ups in two minutes to attending military science lectures on the Korean War, Kai brought charm, energy, and laughter every step of the way. Dressed in full cadet uniform, his disciplined transformation into a young officer impressed viewers, sparking overwhelming reactions from fans known as ‘Snackies.’
Kai’s enthusiastic journey didn’t stop with physical tests. In a series of humorous exchanges, he jokingly asked if he could remove his shirt instead of his jacket during meals due to ROTC dress rules. ‘I often take my shirt off in K-pop style,’ he quipped, generating laughter among senior cadets. True to his vibrant personality, Kai even earned a meal of jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) by passing his fitness test with first-grade results—though he failed to reach the top-tier ‘special class.’
The episode also featured an unexpected meeting with actor Kim Dong-jun, known for his work in the upcoming military drama ‘Shinbyeong 3’. Their friendly banter over active-duty roles added a wholesome twist, and the duo even secured a ‘sweet&sour pork’ treat for watching cadets—an iconic Korean military reward moment.
Towards the end, Kai participated in a lecture on the Korean War with infectious enthusiasm, constantly volunteering and even obsessively asking the professor to grade his responses. His growth from a nervous participant who flubbed the ROTC-style self-introduction to one confidently reciting military greetings displayed genuine immersion and learning.
‘Convict Season 6’ has been a chart-topper on YouTube across South Korea, with every episode climbing the trending video rankings. Previous episodes exploring various departments at KAIST, Yongin University, and Sogang University have achieved top-three trending positions, confirming the show’s widespread appeal.
