‘Resident Playlist’: Korea’s Beloved Medical Drama Universe Expands with Star Cameos and Musical Nostalgia

South Korea’s hit medical drama universe is growing—and fans of Hospital Playlist can rejoice. The new tvN series ‘Resident Playlist’ (original title: 언젠가는 슬기로울 전공의생활) continues the legacy with compelling storylines, interconnected characters, and a musical reunion that taps deep into nostalgia.

In a recent director’s talk, Shin Won-ho, the creative force behind both series, confirmed that cast members from Hospital Playlist will appear as guest stars nearly every episode. ‘Some scenes will be light-hearted, while others will serve as essential narrative bridges,’ he shared. Coming up next: beloved character Kim Jun-wan, played by Jung Kyung-ho, will make a highly anticipated cameo.

Already, the second episode surprised viewers with the return of Ahn Eun-jin as Chu Min-ha, stirring curiosity among fans about her married life with Yang Seok-hyung (Kim Dae-myung). These moments offer fans of the original show delightful easter eggs, connecting the world of new residents with familiar faces from Yulje Medical Center.

Bringing even more emotional resonance, the fan-favorite fictional band Mido and Falasol, known for its cozy acoustic OSTs in Hospital Playlist, returns to contribute two new tracks to the Resident Playlist soundtrack. ‘The new songs reflect the youthful energy of this drama,’ Shin noted, adding that their remake song ‘Amateur’ stands out for fans expecting a throwback.

Resident Playlist premiered on June 12 and follows a fresh group of medical residents as they navigate friendship, professional hurdles, and personal growth. Actors Go Yoon-jung, Shin Si-ah, Kang You-seok, Han Ye-ji, and Jung Jun-won lead a cast of rising stars. New episodes air every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 PM KST.

For international fans craving the charm of Hospital Playlist, Resident Playlist not only delivers a new storyline but skillfully stitches the emotional fabric of an already beloved universe.
