SHINee’s Taemin Reflects on 17 Years in K-Pop and Shares Honest Thoughts

Celebrating 17 Years of Taemin
On June 6th, the YouTube channel ‘Jipdaeseong’ released an episode titled “A Reckoning Amongst Runaway Kids | Do You Know Paju Imjingak Exile (6v6)? | Jipdaeseong ep.60.” In this episode, SHINee’s youngest member, Taemin, who recently made a comeback with the new single Poet I Artist, joined MC Daesung for an in-depth conversation about life as a 2nd generation idol.
A Look Back with Gratitude
Taemin debuted with SHINee in 2008, while MC Daesung is known for his role in Big Bang, debuting in 2006. Taemin revealed a sense of camaraderie with Daesung, explaining, “While we haven’t talked privately, there was always an internal closeness.” Daesung recalled the competitive spirit of the time, saying, “We never appeared together in the same entertainment shows; it was always SM versus YG.”
Reflecting on his successful solo world tour, Taemin shared his gratitude, saying, “I felt a deep appreciation for the overwhelming support from fans. There are times when the love I receive doesn’t feel real, but the tour helped me realize it.”
The Journey and the Challenges Ahead
As he enters his 17th year in the industry, Taemin expressed genuine concerns about his future, wondering, “How long can I continue? Is it right to leave when the applause is loudest?” Daesung offered reassurance, stating, “There hasn’t been anyone like us, globally known 20-year idols. We’re making history.”
Both acknowledged the scarcity of predecessors in their field. Taemin gratefully referred to Big Bang as exceptional role models. Daesung responded with the same sentiment, appreciating the shared experiences of their era.
